MARGARET BOWATER 1963. One of the seaman acquired a bicycle from somewhere, fixed it up and this is the test ride. Painted steel, water and a little oil from the steam winches and rubber tires make for a slippery connection.

“Give us a shot on your bicycle, Wally” was a term sometimes used in those days. I never did understand what it meant as no two wheeled bicycle was evident at the time it was said ashore.
