s.s Margaret Bowater
This is probably the last photograph of Margaret Bowater under that name and was taken in New York when we were leaving for the airport to fly home. The 34 of us on the delivery trip flew home on a 707 all by ourselves. The Master was left onboard until the next day when the actual handover took place.

The plaque on the bow had been removed when the purchaser had her drydocked in Birkenhead prior to saying "yes". The ship is seen at the Bowater wharf on the East River.

When the signing over was complete the new owner was told to remove his ship immediately or pay for it. Tugs, pilots and another berth had to be booked and a source of steam, compressed air and electricity(220DC) made available there to flash the boiler up before she could be self sufficient.
